Denise, a native Floridian, lives in Gainesville with her husband Dan and her twin sons, Henry and Patrick. Denise is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and The University of Florida College of Law.

Denise is an active community leader and volunteer, starting in law school where she was president of the John Marshall Bar Association and then served on the UF Law School Alumni Council. She volunteers as a Board Member with the Guardian ad Litem Foundation, previously serving as President of the Foundation; the Child Advocacy Center, currently serving as the chairperson of the Board; the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, serving as president in 2006-2007, focusing her attention on the Holiday project at Duval Elementary and the Anchor School providing gifts for children; the Junior League of Gainesville.

Denise has always enjoyed mentoring law students, starting in 1999 she became involved in the Trial Team program with University of Florida law school coaching teams in several national competitions; in 2001 she began teaching as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Trial Practice Program. Denise also taught local law enforcement officers at the Institute of Public Safety for many years. Denise and her husband Dan are members of Queen of Peace Catholic Church where they were married and their children were baptized.
